Harvey and Nell Shimek's gardens are located in Alvin, Texas, on 4.3 acres of land. Their love for growing things is evident as you view their garden. The acre around the home is landscaped and daylily borders are used when they get enough plants to make a border. The abundance of color during May is quite spectacular, the borders giving a mass of color. The side garden is filled with long beds where older daylilies along with their seedlings are grown. The large backfield has more seedling beds.

Harvey & Nell registered 2 daylilies in 1993 - Hemerocallis 'Shimek September Morning' and H. 'Czech It Out'.

Their collection of daylilies is varied, with Spiders, Doubles, Large Flowers, and Miniature daylilies abound. They grow about 800 different registered cultivars along with thousands of their seedlings. They collect unusual plants and grow a collection of Jatrophas, Bauhinias, Gingers, Plumerias and many other unusual plants. They grow Roses and Hibiscus, as well.
