They were introduced to daylilies and the North Texas Daylily Society in the 1990s by Nickie & Eddie Knight. Nickie gave them many registered daylilies and seedlings she was creating. They potted 43 of these when they moved and these were planted in 2005. They now have 900+ registered daylilies. The Longs have a complete Stout Medal Award bed, a miniatures bed, a doubles bed, a Spiders/Unusual Forms bed, and a seedling bed (they are beginning to hybridize). In all they have 21 daylily beds, a cactus garden, a perennial bed, and several Iris beds. Ron Taylor, Executor of Mabel Matthews Estate, not only donated, but helped us dig plants from Mabel's gardens. We now have 32 of Mabel's registered daylilies plus a few of her seedlings in a new bed in our Display Garden, dedicated to Mabel. |
