|In January 2004, Kenneth & Linda Long purchased five acres in Peaster, Texas, and built their retirement home. The property was divided between over 80 large Live Oak trees and open prairie which was covered with wildflowers in the Spring.|
|As soon as the house was completed they began planting additional trees, shrubs and flowers. They now have a fruit orchard of 39 trees, a grove of 26 Loblolly and Slash Pines, eleven Japanese Maples, six Austrian Pines, two Afghan Pines, and 28 more shade and decorative trees.|
They were introduced to daylilies and the North Texas Daylily Society in the 1990s by Nickie & Eddie Knight. Nickie gave them many registered daylilies and seedlings she was creating. They potted 43 of these when they moved and these were planted in 2005. They now have 900+ registered daylilies.
The Longs have a complete Stout Medal Award bed, a miniatures bed, a doubles bed, a Spiders/Unusual Forms bed, and a seedling bed (they are beginning to hybridize).
In all they have 21 daylily beds, a cactus garden, a perennial bed, and several Iris beds.
